One of my favorite parts of Spring is the boom in Engagement Sessions. This is the time of year were everything is in full bloom and love is in the air. I started asking my couples about their experience with the wedding planning before the wedding day – while they are still in the thick of it. Seeing different perspectives from the couples that are in process can be great insight to anyone else planning their wedding. I asked Miranda a couple of questions about her wedding plans and her experience with the Engagement Session.
Q: How did you two meet?
A: I met Kevin at a small town parade during the summer of 2010, where we both took active part in our high school’s marching band. I was a freshman and Kevin was a senior at the time.
Q: How did your significant other propose?
A: In August of 2020 Kevin proposed to Miranda while hiking around the base of Mount Hood, Oregon, exactly 10 years after they met.
Q: What is something that you or your significant other did to prepare for your session?
A: We chose to do our engagement session exactly one year before our wedding day, and that in itself is super special. It didn’t matter that it was cold and rainy, we’ll always remember the day as our negative one anniversary!
Q: Tell us about your outfit choices, hair, make-up, manicure, etc
A: When we were planning our engagement session, we wanted to the photos to reflect our vision for our wedding day. We chose to do formal engagement photos to use on our Save the Date to get everyone excited about the formal nature of our wedding!
Q: What made you choose the location for your engagement session?
A: Kevin and I are both Pitt alumni, and we absolutely love the springtime flowers in Oakland.
Q: What was your favorite moment during the session?
A: Whenever we changed from our casual to formal outfits, we really upped the game of the photos. Catherine had us in more intimate photos, which really turned out beautiful!
Q: What has been a challenge during your wedding planning?
A: There are so many different options to chose from for every single aspect of a wedding! I think just staying focused on what we want has been difficult.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for couples planning their wedding day?
A: Stay focused on what you want. It’s very easy to get caught up in the excitement of the many options available to those planning weddings.
Q: What is one piece of advice that you could give for couples about to have their engagement session?
A: Just have fun with it! It’s likely going to be one of the first exciting things you’ll do as a couple to prepare for your wedding.
